Watchers in Training
Slayers are not the only ones who are to be trained. Watchers are often trained from birth as a great many are descendants of past generations of watchers as with the Giles, Wyndham Prices, Travers, Kensingtons, & other families. We learned from the Tales of the Vampires comic series that Watchers are trained as children, going on "field trips" to visit vampires and such under controlled circumstances for their studies. Two of the most notable watchers in training are the young Edna Fairweather in what appears to be the late 1800's England, and Andrew in 2002. Edna is likely the grandmother of Rupert Giles, see her bio for explanation. Edna and her "classmates," James, Sophie, Roger, & a few others are taken to visit the ancient vampire "Roche" so that he may tell them tales of the vampires. For days he tells them tales of his adventures and of others, until he and his sire, Sophie the 10 year old appearing WIT attacked. Only Edna has the skills and smarts to see this coming and saved them all. The other notable WIT is Andrew who originally teamed up with two other under-par villains to form "The Troika." With the goal of becoming super villains and taking over Sunnydale, they realize that the Slayer Buffy is the only thing standing in their way. For a while the Troika manages only to annoy the slayer with their pathetic schemes, until the leader Warren turns darker and darker. Andrew lends a hand in plans that wind up with two women dead, is hunted by the slayer's best friend, scorned witch Willow but lives to redeem himself. In the seventh season of BTVS, Andrew plays an important role in the final battle against the major evil in Sunnydale, even participating in his own sad version of hand to hand combat in the war against the First evil. Surviving the battle he is taken under the wing of Rupert Giles whom we later learn is training Andrew for watcher duty.
It is now known that Andrew is living in Rome, Italy and is in charge of a group of new slayers.
